Making our own fresh vegetable juices at home can be a nourishing and delicious substitute, and you’ll find it easy to get those 15 pounds into you when much of the bulk has been removed. Juicing is one of the best moves you can make towards optimum health, and it’s also great skin treatment. However, as with any skin treatment, you need to match up the remedy with the problem. Here’s the rundown on which juices are good for which conditions.
Anti-aging and general skin pick-me-ups: Although all juices can help you look younger, bell pepper, kale, spinach, turnip greens and sweet potato are excellent. Also high on the list are watermelon, celery and carrot juice. If you have blood sugar problems, go easy on the carrot juice - it converts to blood sugar pretty quickly.
Acne treatment: There are a few juice combinations that work very well for acne. Carrot, green pepper and parsley, with just a few slices of apple and potato is one of the best.
Eczema and dry skin treatment: Although you don’t want to ingest too much chlorine – you should always drink bottled chlorine-free water – watercress, which is high in both chlorine and sulphur, is good for some skin problems. Add some carrot, spinach, turnip leaves and a slice of potato, and you’ve got a good natural skin treatment for both dry skin and eczema.
Prevention: If you don’t have problem skin but would like to use juices to prevent it, go for vegetables with high silicone content. Greens, broccoli, cabbage, kale, spinach, and watercress are all good choices.
If you have already tried juicing and your stomach has become bloated or uncomfortable, it may be due to combining fruits and vegetables. The high acidic content of many fruits and the natural oils in vegetables don’t mix well at all. Try it again, without combining them, and you may find you do very well. If you really can’t stand the taste without a little fruit to sweeten things up, use apples. They’re not very acidic and will do the job. To avoid fruit altogether, you can sweeten your juices with carrots.
Another very important fact about juicing: Make sure you buy organic fruits and vegetables – stay away from the chemicals. In fact, if you really want to give your skin a boost, stay away from chemicals in general. Use natural cleaning products in your home, use natural skin treatment products on your body, and use a shielding lotion to protect you from chemicals and pollutants in the environment.
A skin treatment routine that doesn’t start with a healthy diet usually only masks your problems. Drinking fresh, natural juices every day nourishes and heals the body, and that will eventually show up on the skin.
