When Skin Care Treatment Doesnt Resolve Your Skin Condition, Check Out Your Gut

04/28/2008

Some people suffering from dry skin, eczema and skin conditions spend decades searching for a remedy to no avail. No matter what skin care treatment they use, their skin remains dry, or they continue to have breakouts, blotches, rashes and other problems. Thousands of doctors now recommend a good shielding lotion for dry skin, eczema and other conditions, but if a good skin care treatment is not resolving your problem, it may be that the real problem is internal. And, in many cases, it starts with an allergy to food.

What is a food allergy? There are basically two varieties. One is an acute reaction to the specific food you’re eating. These reactions can cover everything from severe rashes or swollen lips to difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, vomiting, diarrhea, or cramping. This is called anaphylaxis, an over-reaction of the immune system that can affect many parts of the body, and generally warrants an immediate trip to the emergency room. Wheat, corn, dairy, peanuts, fish, shellfish and soy are the usual offenders. This type of food allergy doesn’t generally cause skin problems that don’t resolve with the right skin care treatment.

The other type of food allergy is not so much a reaction to the food as an intestinal condition that prohibits the body from digesting or processing the food properly. This is often a result of leaky gut syndrome: The lining of the small intestine becomes so inflamed or otherwise damaged it can no longer contain the food particles it’s trying to process. Instead, they leak into the bloodstream and send the immune system into a frenzy of activity trying to get them out.

The effect on the skin can be chronic dryness, frequent breakouts or eczema flares, and no skin care treatment is going to take care of the problem.

How do you know if your skin condition is caused by leaky gut syndrome? Invariably, the skin problem will not resolve with the use of a skin care treatment product alone and, chances are, you will also be experiencing other symptoms - gas, bloating and after-meal cramping are generally the first signs, along with irritability, headaches and difficulty concentrating. As things get worse the person will usually feel general fatigue and memory loss. At that point, just about any food can make you feel uncomfortable.

If your skin condition is not resolving and you have the above symptoms, you may want to check with your doctor to discuss the possibility of food allergies. However, if you are relatively symptom-free and just looking for a skin treatment that will effectively treat your dry skin, eczema or other skin problem, take the advice of thousands of doctors and give shielding lotion a try!
